Most modern cabinets use adjustable (concealed/European) hinges that let you fine-tune doors in three directions: up–down, left–right, and in–out. Adjust in the order below for the best results.
Phillips or Pozidriv screwdriver
Good lighting
Patience (small turns matter)
Where: The mounting plate screws (on the cabinet side).
How:
Slightly loosen the mounting plate screws.
Raise or lower the door until tops/bottoms align with adjacent doors.
Retighten securely.
Fixes: Doors too high/low; uneven top lines.
Where: The cam screw on the hinge arm.
How:
Turn the cam screw to shift the door left or right.
Adjust both top and bottom hinges evenly.
Fixes: Uneven gaps between doors; doors rubbing each other or the cabinet side.
Where: The depth screw on the hinge arm.
How:
Turn to move the Door Closer to or farther from the cabinet.
Aim for a flush face across all doors.
Fixes: Door sticking out; soft-close not engaging smoothly.
Open/close the door a few times.
Make ¼-turn adjustments only.
Recheck alignment against neighboring doors.
| Problem | Adjustment |
|---|---|
| Door too high/low | Up & down |
| Uneven gaps | Left & right |
| Door not flush | In & out |
| Won’t close smoothly | Depth + side-to-side |
Adjust one door at a time.
Start with the top hinge, then match the bottom.
Avoid power drivers for fine tuning (easy to strip screws).
If screws spin freely, fix the hole before adjusting.
Set height first.
Center gaps side-to-side.
Make doors flush with depth adjustment.
Fine-tune in small increments.
